NWCCN’s mission is to form, inspire, and empower a community of people interested in adventure and experiential programming at all levels in a playful, encouraging, and growth-minded environment.
NWCCN started as a collective of facilitators, from all walks of life, committed to the promotion and development of low risk, effective experiential learning through the use of Challenge Courses, Zip Tours, and Adventure Parks. Since 1991 our community has grown to include teachers, camp directors, mental health professionals and more. We meet annually and gather around a fire to see old friends, have engaging conversations, and share the skills we use every day in our careers.
Connection - We value being together. As a network of interconnected individuals, we recognize that our value as a community and as individuals is increased by sharing.
Joy - We gather to enjoy community and have fun together. We play. We celebrate by sharing ideas, stories, and perspectives.
Challenge - We seek out challenges. We understand that risk is ever present and that safety can only be created by acknowledging what is dangerous and understanding what defines a ‘risk worth taking.’
Learning - We look for what is new. We believe that education and growth require venturing beyond what is familiar and embrace that learning is a lifelong experience.
Service - We work for each other. We are for one another. We look for ways to support our community members and the organization and entities to which we belong and are connected to.
Authenticity - We strive for authenticity in all dimensions. We interact with each other with sincerity and honesty in order to promote vulnerability and accountability within ourselves and our organizations.
Our annual conference usually happens on the second weekend in November at a camp somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Every NWCCN conference starts with a gathering of the minds where attendees share what they hope to get from the conference, officers share planned workshops, and we decide the topics for the weekend. Over the next day and a half we engage in workshops, participate in engaging conversations, share professional insights and technical skills we use on a day-to-day basis, and come together to share the ups and downs of the past year with new and old friends.
“At NWCCN I found found joy in participating in a welcoming community of people who are happy to share their wealth of knowledge and offer tangible, actionable advice for me to take back to my organization. As a course manager, I value the opportunity to ask experienced industry professionals specific questions about challenge course inspections and maintenance. I received helpful answers and suggestions that I will be able to implement at my course. As a person who likes to laugh, I am already looking forward to next year's conference.”
